2. To have students practice in making predictions and inferences

Procedure:

Section 1 Pre-task preparation

1. Introduce the name of the crew “ASAP”.

2. Review some new words ( Read and match )

Section 2 While-task process

1. Introduce the characters (Show the photos , names and jobs to the students )

Part I

1). Show a picture with the sentence “Let’s get out of here.” to the students, ask them to predict what might happen .)

2). Let the students discuss three questions to predict what may happen in the following story?

a) Why did they land on an unexplored planet ?

b) What might they find ?

c) What did they want to do then?

Then write down their answers.

3). Read Part I and check whether their predictions are correct or not.

4). Ask the students to read the story again and finish the summary of Part I.

Part II

1) Show a picture to the students, let them find some information about what might happen in Part II.)

2) Let the students discuss three questions to predict what may happen in the following story?

a) Was Gork friendly to them?

b) What would Gork do with them ?

c)How did Lam, Peters and other members probably feel after they heard Gork’s words?

3) Read Part II and check whether their predictions are correct or not.

4) Ask the students to read the story again and finish the summary of Part II.

Section 3 Post-task activity

Ask the students to discuss what problems Captain King and his crew had.

Section 4 Assignments

1. Read the story.

2. Workbook 8A page 56.

3. Write about the solutions of the problems.
